New Year, New Leotards, Ballet Classes January Islington Updates, Pop-Up Shop, and What’s New at Ballet North

The decorations are packed away, the calendars are fresh, and if you are anything like most families in North London, you are easing your way back into routines. At Ballet North, January means more than just new timetables. It is the start of a new term, a chance to reset, and this year, we are bringing a few exciting updates to help you start strong.

We know January can feel like a blur of school runs, forgotten logins, and realising ballet shoes are suddenly one size too small. That’s exactly why we’ve put together this guide. Whether you're returning to class or thinking about joining us for the first time, here’s everything you need to know about our ballet classes in Islington, Stoke Newington, Clapton and London Fields this January, including term dates, uniform tips, longer class times, and how to use our new booking system.

New Term Starts 5 January – Are You Ready?

Our Spring 2025 term begins on Friday 5 January, and as always, the first week back is one of the busiest. Children are excited to return to class, and many parents are still adjusting to post-holiday logistics. That’s why we’re encouraging all families to take a few simple steps before classes start, so you can avoid any back-to-class surprises.

Quick checklist for a smooth return:

  • Check that you’re enrolled through our new Class Manager system
  • Double-check ballet shoes, leotards, and hair accessories
  • Plan ahead for the Uniform Pop-Up Shop on 24 January
  • Bookmark our How to Book page for step-by-step help

If you’re new to Ballet North or coming back after a break, don’t worry.

We’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.

Class Times Are Changing (In a Good Way)

This term, we’ve updated the length of our classes to give children more time to enjoy their sessions and get the most out of each week. We’ve heard from many parents that 30 minutes often feels a little too quick, especially after the effort it takes to get out the door. So now:

  • 30-minute classes are now 40 minutes
  • 45-minute classes are now a full hour

This gives more time to warm up, explore movement, build confidence, and cool down, all without feeling rushed. It also gives you, the parent, a more relaxing window to enjoy a coffee, a walk, or even just a moment of calm.

Booking Now Runs Through Class Manager – Here’s What That Means

We’re always working behind the scenes to make things easier for families. One of the biggest changes this January is the switch to Class Manager, a subscription-based booking system.

Rather than paying one large invoice at the start of the month, families now have a more flexible way to pay, spreading costs evenly across the year. It’s a bit like a Netflix subscription, but with pliés and tutus instead of movies.

This update is especially helpful if you:

  • Manage multiple activities and schedules
  • Prefer automation over manual payments
  • Are new to Ballet North and want a clear, easy-to-use system

Need help getting started? Our How to Book page walks you through the steps.

Uniform Feeling a Bit… Small? Visit Our Pop-Up on 24 January

One of our most popular community events is back. The Uniform Pop-Up Shop returns on Wednesday 24 January, giving parents a chance to stock up on essentials, try sizes in person, and ask questions.

This is ideal for:

  • Families who joined recently or are still building their ballet kit
  • Parents who would rather not guess sizes online
  • Anyone who appreciates the ease of local shopping

We’ll have everything you need, from ballet shoes and leotards to skirts and tights. If you can’t make the pop-up, our Uniform Shop is available online 24/7.

No Workshops in January – But February is Coming

If you are looking for holiday dance activities, hold tight. Ballet North’s themed workshops will return in February, with full details confirmed soon.

These popular half-day sessions are packed with themed ballet, games, crafts, and a mini-performance at the end. Themes in the past have included Moana, Alice in Wonderland, and Swan Lake.

Keep an eye on our Workshops page for updates as soon as details go live.

Real Talk - Coming Back After Christmas is a Big Deal

Let’s be honest. January is not the easiest month to restart a routine. Children are adjusting, parents are juggling, and it’s easy to forget that returning to class is a transition.

If your child is returning to early years ballet classes or just starting for the first time, give yourselves grace. Children don’t need everything perfect. They need warmth, structure, and a friendly face waiting for them.

Parent Tip: Pack the kit the night before, leave five minutes earlier than usual, and keep post-class snacks ready. These small things help more than you think.
